Bella The Witch: Chapter 17

Bella sat in Klaus’s desk chair her feet were kicked up on his desk as she flipped through one of the books she found on his desk. He had asked her to come here after work, and seeing it as a good chance to question Rebekah and Kol on their first day of school along with seeing Elijah she couldn’t refuse. She had been here for a good 10 minutes having been let in by Finn. He was really the only original Bella wasn’t able to properly get to know. Finn still spent his days locked away with Sage, and Sage was someone Bella didn’t particularly like from what she had done to Elijah and attempted to do to Niklaus.

“You’re not supposed to put your feet on the desk, it ruins the wood.” Klaus said entering the office immediately heading for one of the bookshelves pulling out a large green leather bound book.

“And you weren’t supposed to be late,” Bella said with a smile as she planted her feet on the ground. “Why are you reading up on the history of Mystic Falls? I can understand where you’d be curious, but this all really seems to be a lot of research on such an insignificant little town. Everything we need to know, we already know.”

“I’m aware of that, but it’s never a bad thing to know more than what is needed,” Klaus replied he set the book down and looked to Bella. “Have you looked into the moonstone by any chance?”

“I have,” Bella said with a smirk, “And from what I’ve gotten, Katerina has it. Apparently, she wants to make a deal for her freedom. She’s gathered a wolf, a vampire the doppelganger and the moonstone all as a nice little bundle to trade with.”

“I wouldn’t accept the deal,” Klaus said flipping through the book. “We can still get the moonstone from Katherine without making a deal with her.”

Bella nodded in agreement, “That’s good to hear, the wolf is a newbie, he hasn’t even turned 18 yet, and the vampire seems like such a sweet girl.”

Klaus looked to Bella, “Explain to me again, how do you know all of this?”

“The sirens,” Bella responded easily, “I’m officially one of them, at least metaphorically I am. Their leader gives me information I want, and if it’s worthy enough I give her daylight rings for her family.”

Klaus chuckled, “So what else do you know?”

“Well, Elena had her first tooth taken out when she was 8. Her first word was Mommy, she said it to her father. She’s really adopted, the biological mother is a vampire and one that is trying to find you, but she’s doing a horrible job at it. She’s somewhere in Atlanta thinking she’s really close to locating you, she wants to help Katherine, but is pretending to wanting to help keep Elena safe. This way, she’s still kept in the loop of what’s happening in Mystic Falls without actually having to be there. Bonnie, the witch best friend, is trying to find a way to kill you, but without knowing exactly what you are she has no chance. Rose and Trevor have now also joined in the attempt to kill you and keep Elena safe.” Bella paused and looked at Klaus. “You have your own group of people who want you dead.”

Klaus smirked, “It comes with the title of most feared being in the world.”

“Doesn’t it bother you?” Bella asked as she tilted her head to look at Klaus waiting for his answer.

He shook his head, “I’ve had people hate me for most of my life it’s something I got accustomed to very quickly.”

“This seems to be bothering me more than it is you, Nik.” Bella said as she settled back into the chair. “Honestly, it makes me not want to spare their lives anymore.”

Klaus chuckled at her words, “Do not let this bother you much further, Bella. It’s useless, there will always be someone who hates me and wants me dead. What else have you gathered?”

“Not very much, although, my brother and his wife have finished their guest house, and it’s yours for when we go to break the curse.” Bella said with a smirk as she spun around in the desk chair. She had found herself to begin to be more carefree now that she was with Elijah. Though she knew that soon she would need to tell him the truth over what they were to each other, but she had fears over how that conversation would go. “So, how did Rebekah and Kol’s day go?”

“I haven’t asked,” Klaus replied with a frown on his face. “Rebekah was in a sour mood when she came home, so I’ve done my best to stay away from her.”

“Nik, if she’s in a bad mood, you have to ask her about it. You can’t just let her bottle it up, and then wait until she explodes. Which, I’m sure she’ll do at any moment.” Bella said with a shake of her head, she would ask Rebekah what was wrong when she had a chance. “What did you and Elijah do all day?”

“Elijah insisted on gathering more blood bags for you, so we spent the morning doing that. He would only get those he deemed worthy.” Klaus rolled his eyes, he looked to Bella who seemed amused. “Then, we dedicated the rest of our time to staying out of the house. It seems Finn still isn’t too pleased with us, and well, Sage is Sage.”

“I don’t like Sage,” Bella stated with a frown as the name of the red-headed vampire put a sour taste in her mouth.

Klaus laughed amused at Bella’s attitude. “That will be a first for you not liking someone, but I assume this all has to do with her hurting Elijah. Had she not done that, you would’ve already made her your best friend.”

“I won’t deny that I find her actions towards Elijah disgusting and it was what led me to dislike her in the first place, but there’s more to it. I dislike her because she felt entitled to some sort of revenge towards you, when you haven’t directly hurt her. And as Kol said, she isn’t Finn’s mate, she shouldn’t be the one so enraged at you, that’s something only Finn is entitled to.” Bella said with disgust towards the redheaded vampire.

“You’re not going to try and kill her,” Klaus asked amused.

Bella glared at him, “I wouldn’t have to try to kill her, if I wanted to kill her I could and I would have already done it. But I don’t like to kill, you know this already.”

Klaus smirked, “You could always change your opinion on killing. It is possible one day you might turn into a blood thirsty serial killer, and my dear brother will have to try and stop you before you end up killing yourself with that blood handicap you have.”

Bella paused and went into thought about Elijah. After a few minutes passed she spoke again. “No, I don’t think I could become a serial killer, I don’t have the stomach for it. Where is Elijah now that we’re speaking about him?”

“He went to shower, he had an incident and spilled something on his suit,” Klaus said with a roll of his eyes as he knew his brother had only gone to shower because he wanted to be a mess when he saw Bella. “You should tell him about being Soul Mates before we leave for Mystic Falls. It would be terrible if he hears it slip with your brother.”

Bella eyes went wide, Riley and Victoria were capable of letting this sort of information slip out by accident. “You’re right.” She looked to Klaus worried, “Do you think he’d be angry at me for keeping this from him?”

“I have a strong feeling he’ll understand,” Klaus replied seeing Bella’s demeanor calm slightly, but the obvious worry was still evident on her face. He would tell her Elijah already knew and seemed to be more than fine with the news, but her telling him was something the two of them needed. Bella needed to face whatever fears she had, and Elijah needed to know Bella would trust him enough to speak to him. Klaus stayed silent as he watched Bella contemplate every scenario possible of the conversation, he knew she would tell him soon.

“Have you spoken to your brother today?” Klaus asked breaking the silence.

“Huh?” Bella asked looking at Klaus. She shook her head clearing her mind of all thoughts. “Riley called this morning, he wanted to know a few things, and just check in on me. He worries I’m going to any day now fly off the deep end.”

“He seems like a good brother,” Klaus stated. “I’d see where he’d worry about you.”

Bella smiled, “Yes well, I assume you worry even more about Rebekah.”

Klaus smirked, “I do worry about Rebekah it’s something we all do. Rebekah can be very vulnerable, and will often times let her emotions get the better of her and we have to deal with her tantrums. She’s not as strong as the rest of us in controlling our emotions. I’m sure you’ve witnessed her attitude changes, and if by chance you haven’t, you will soon.”

Bella rolled her eyes, “I don’t think you give her enough credit. You do have to understand that she’s forever stuck at the sage of 16 or 17, I’m not exactly sure of her age, but she’s young Nik. She’s barely a teen.”

Klaus looked to Bella, “You’re forever stuck at 18, that would be one year of difference between you and Rebekah, yet you’re more of an adult than anyone in this house.”

“She didn’t go through what I went through, Nik.” Bella replied, “I had my heart crushed, I found my long lost brother months before my father was killed. My mother never raised me, I raised her. I didn’t exactly have the same upbringing that Rebekah had. Despite being born centuries apart, Rebekah had a family, a good one. She had two parents who loved her and let her grow on her own, she was surrounding by all of you. She was never truly independent, I don’t think she will be anytime soon. Rebekah is dependent on all of you, I think all her emotional outbursts you speak of are due to her fear of losing you all. Without her siblings, she’s alone, and that can be terrifying, especially for someone who’s been so dependent on you for close to a thousand years.” Bella smirked as she saw Klaus taking in her words.

Klaus tilted his head and looked at Bella, “I can see why you and Elijah would be soulmates.”

Bella rolled her eyes, “Say it any louder, and everyone will hear you, Nik!” Bella glared, “I’ll tell him, I just need to get my thoughts together first.”

Klaus chuckled, “I don’t think your thoughts are what is holding you back from speaking to Elijah. You two have been together a short amount of time, but it didn’t take more than a day for you two to start falling in love with one another. You may not want to believe it Bella, but you’re in love with Elijah, and he’s in love with you. Whenever you choose to tell him I don’t think he’ll be angry at you, my brother is understanding, and I’m more than sure he’ll understand why you kept this from him. Listen to me Bella, because I’ve been repeating this to you long enough. My brother will not hate you, he will not be angry, he will understand, and then you’ll move on from this.”

Bella nodded, he was right, he had told her just minutes before the same thing. It was time she began to listen to Klaus. “I’ll tell him tonight.” She decided she stood up and walked over to Klaus. “Thank you.”

“I suppose it was time I helped you for a change,” Klaus responded, “I’m sure my brother is done with his shower, I’ll speak to you tomorrow to ask how it went.”

Bella smiled, “Of course, I’ll see you later Nik.” Bella paused at the door. “For the sake of your sister’s sanity, why don’t you ask her what’s wrong?” Bella closed the door and hurriedly headed up the stairs. She went straight for Elijah’s bedroom and knocked on the door.

“Come in, Isabella.” Elijah said, Bella smiled and walked in, she noticed Elijah by his closest looking through his suit jackets as it seemed to be the last thing left to choose to complete his outfit. He turned and smiled at her, “It’s lovely to see you.”

Bella grinned and walked towards Elijah, she stood on the tips of her toes and kissed him. “The black one looks better on you.” She said as she pulled back, she smiled as he grabbed the black jacket and placed it on.

“I assume you came to speak to Niklaus?” Elijah asked as he tied his tie.

Bella smiled as she watched him. “He’s getting ready to go to Mystic Falls, have you spoken to Rebekah?”

Elijah glanced at Bella as he caught the tone in her voice. “I haven’t had the chance, is there something wrong?”

“I don’t know, Nik mentioned she was in a bad mood, I’m worried something might’ve happened while she was at school.” Bella responded, “High school is a pain for anyone, I don’t think it’ll be any different for your sister.”

“There is a chance this has more to do with Kol than with school. Kol was always able to get under Rebekah’s skin, he’s spent the day with her. I’m sure he has more to do with her bad mood than school.” Elijah smiled as he noticed how much Bella worried over his siblings. He watched as Bella fidgeted from foot to foot. “Something wrong, my love?”

Bella smiled and shook her head, “Not really. Would you come over later tonight to my home? I want to show you something, it’s important.”

Elijah walked forward and stood in front of Bella, his hand came up to lightly caress her cheek. He gazed into her eyes searching for any emotion that would seem off. “Is something wrong?” He asked his voice light as he spoke to his Bella.

Bella smiled and placed her hand over Elijah’s, she closed her eyes for a moment as she enjoyed the small gesture. “Nothing is wrong, I just want to share something with you.”

Elijah nodded, “Alright.” He kissed her lips lightly before pulling back and smiling at her. As he gazed down at Bella he couldn’t understand how he had become so lucky to be able to call someone like her his soul mate. Through all the evil he had done in his lifetime, he had still somehow been blessed with her. “You’re quite beautiful.” He said smiling as he could see the warm blush heat up her cheeks. She had been the first vampire to have ever blushed at his words, and it was a beautiful sight to see. His fingers ran over where the blushed collected on her cheeks.

Bella smiled, she had been called beautiful before, but it had never been believable. Coming from Elijah, it was different, she couldn’t help but believe in the truth of his words. Bella closed her eyes as once again Elijah’s lips met hers, and she fell into the kiss. There was nothing compared to being so close to Elijah. She wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss between them. They had yet to fully connect to one another, it was a step Bella only wanted to take when it was time, when she had told him the truth.

They both pulled back as they heard the loud smash from downstairs. Bella smiled at Elijah, “I think your sister finally went off the deep end.”

“I believe you may be right,” Elijah replied he took Bella’s hand in his, “Let’s go see what my siblings have gotten into.”

Bella smiled and walked beside Elijah down the stairs she stood at his side as they walked into the living room to see Kol with a chair leg in his stomach.

“You didn’t have to do that!” Kol growled in anger as he slowly pulled the wood out and threw it on the floor.

“May I ask what happened?” Bella said catching Rebekah’s attention.

“My brother,” Rebekah spat glaring at Kol, “Humiliated me.”

Bella looked to Kol, and then back to Rebekah noticing Klaus’s amused look in the corner of the room. “What did he do exactly?”

“I didn’t do anything, Rebekah as always is being dramatic.” Kol said as he stood and poured himself another drink.

Rebekah glared at her brother, “I AM NOT BEING DRAMATIC!” Rebekah shouted, she turned to Bella and Elijah. “While we were at school, I had made friends, one of which was a preppy popular cheerleader. Being friends with her would put me at the top of the command pyramid at the school. Kol here decided to not only openly flirt with the girl, but during our lunch period, I caught him with her in the janitorial closet, he was feeding off of her. He’s ruining everything I’m trying to do!”

Bella shook her head, “This is high school Rebekah, Kol’s personality will help you get what you want. If you do things in a smart way, you can use Kol’s impulsiveness to benefit you. The fact that the popular girl was throwing herself at Kol, it was giving you a large advantage.”

Rebekah smirked as the wheels in her mind started turning, “I think you may just have a point, Bella.” Rebekah exited the room promising to come down the stairs later in the day.

“How did you do that?” Kol asked Bella as he took a small sip of his drink. “I was sure she would try to have my head.”

Bella shrugged, “I own a bookstore, and teen books are the best sellers. You can learn a thing or two about the way some high schools work by reading. I gave her the basics of what these books would say.”

Elijah smiled and kissed Bella’s temple, “I’m sure this will only be the first time Kol gets on Rebekah’s nerve you might have to let Rebekah read a few books at your store.”

Kol chuckled from across the room. “Well, there always is a lot of fun in making Rebekah angry.”

Klaus looked at Bella, “Well, I guess you were right, we shouldn’t have waited for Rebekah to throw a tantrum.”

“I told you, I’m always right, she was bound to explode.” Bella said she smiled as Elijah wrapped his arms around her bringing her in closer to his chest. The feeling of his warmth made her feel safe, it felt like being at home. Bella stayed in Elijah’s arms as they talked to Kol and Klaus. The conversation shifting to their future travels to Mystic Falls in a week, just before the ritual.

-Page Break-

Bella walked beside Elijah his arm wrapped tightly around her waist keeping her at his side as they made the walk to her house. Keeping human pace to enjoy the moonlight that shone above them.

“My dad would’ve loved you,” Bella said out of the blue as she thought back to her dad.

Elijah glanced down at Bella, “Do you believe that?”

Bella nodded, “When the poison was killing me, I had a decision to make. Go with my dad or become a vampire.” Bella sighed, “It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. Growing up, the only thing I could depend on was my dad. He’d pull double shifts just so he had some left over money he could send to me. He’d gather up his vacation days towards the end of summer so we could be together. My mother got me in the custody argument, but she wasn’t there for me like Charlie was. I didn’t know I depended so much on my dad until after he died. After his death, I started to depend on Riley, he looks so much like my dad that for a moment I started to feel as if I was making him into my father figure instead of my brother. That’s when I decided to come here to New York, to distant myself from him, so I didn’t become so dependent.”

Bella looked up at the sky, “When I met Nik, he was different. He’s nothing like Ry or Charlie. In all honesty, I didn’t think your brother and I were going to be friends when we first met. Riley helped me move on from what happened to Charlie. Nik, he helped me understand that it wasn’t my fault, that I did what I had to survive. That’s why I feel so close to him, I feel like I owe him for saving me, and he led me to you.” Bella paused as she and Elijah reached the front of her home. “Wait here for a minute.”

Bella blurred away she headed into the house and up to her magic room. She grabbed the picture she kept there, hidden under boxes and other things. She went back down the stairs and reached her front porch. She took a seat on the steps beside Elijah and handed him the picture in her hands.

Elijah took a good look at the picture. Bella had her hair down in the picture she was wearing a dark dress. His eyes analyzed the people around her. The boy with the rustic brown hair that had his arm wrapped around her waist. The short haired girl who stood close to Bella’s other side a wide smile on her face while the man beside her was wearing a serious face looking almost as if he were in pain. Behind him was a big burly man who had a goofy look on his face and attached to his arm was a snobby looking blonde that had a frown plastered on her face. Elijah looked back to the boy and then to the two older beings just on the side of the boy. A blonde older looking man who had a small smile on his face with an arm wrapped around a brunette who stared into the camera with a perfect smile.

The one thing that really caught his attention were the golden eyes of all the beings surrounding Bella. It clicked in his mind as all their appearances matched up with Bella’s descriptions of the Cullens. “These are them.”

Bella nodded, “Yes.” She replied simply, “These are the Cullens.” She named them all and then looked back to her hands. “I found this picture right before we moved from Forks, it was under the floor boards. I didn’t want to throw it away, it’s a reminder that I’m better off without them.

“This is what you wished to show me?” Elijah asked as he looked towards Bella confused on why she wanted to show him the picture. He took her hand in his and kissed the back of it, giving her reassurance that he wasn’t going to judge her.

“Yes,” Bella replied softly, “I wanted you to understand.”

Bella turned fully to face Elijah it was now or never. “Edward used to tell me about his family, and their relationships towards each other. They were all mated, and Edward was the odd one out. He was the one who was all alone for eternity. When we dated, Edward used to tell me I was his mate. The two of us were meant to be together, we were soul mates, bound to each other for eternity.” Bella said she glanced at the picture still in Elijah’s hands and took in a deep breath.

“When he left, I felt betrayed. I loved Edward with everything that I had, and I used to believe that my admiration of him was love, that it was our souls binding to each other. When he left I was heartbroken, I felt as if all my feelings were taken as a joke by him. I didn’t think I could ever let go of Edward, of what he did to me, and for a while I believed that he would come back for me, that we would be together again.”  Bella said she looked to Elijah and met his gaze.

“When I got my powers, I was told that I had the ability to turn into a vampire and keep my gifts. There was a catch though, I could only be turned by your type of vampire, and the blood had to be special.” Bella forced herself to not look away from Elijah’s eyes, “The blood to turn me had to be the blood from my soul mate.”

Bella looked down at her hands with guilt as the sentence finally came out. “I know I kept this from you, Eli, and I’m so sorry. But, I was afraid. I wanted to know that what I felt for you wasn’t because I thought I had to feel it. I wanted what you feel for me to be true, and not because you felt you had to feel it. I was afraid that I would be doing to you what Edward did to me. I fell in love with Edward because it felt like what I was supposed to do, and I didn’t want that with you. I wanted to fall in love with you for the right reasons, and not because I felt like I had to. I didn’t even know I was falling in love with you until I woke up from my transition. When I saw I could still use my magic, I was relieved to know it was you. Because I was so attracted to you, and I already felt so close to you it felt wrong even thinking I could be with someone else that wasn’t you. After that, it only grew and I know that what I felt for Edward is nothing compared to what I feel for you.”

Bella glanced up to meet Elijah’s gaze her eyes watered in fear that he would reject her, it would be something she truly wouldn’t be able to handle. “Please. Say something.” Bella closed her eyes as she tried to hold back the tears as her mind already played out the worst case scenario.

“My sweet Isabella,” Elijah whispered as he lifted her so she sat wrapped up in his arms in his lap. “I love you, and I understand why you kept it from me and it is okay, do not worry yourself over it.” Elijah kissed her head gently. “I’ve been waiting for you to tell me about this.” He admitted.

Bella looked up at Elijah and wiped her eye, “You knew about this?”

Elijah nodded a small smiled came upon his face. “Niklaus let it slip the other day.”

Bella’s eyes widened, in realization, she now understood why Nik seemed so sure about Elijah’s reaction. “He swore not to say anything.” She glanced at Elijah, “Why didn’t you say anything to me?”

Elijah tucked a stray strand of hair behind Bella’s ear, “I wanted to give you this moment. I wanted you to be able to trust me with this.”

Bella smiled, “I love you.” She stated with a smile as it felt so freeing to say it and truly mean it. “I love you.” She repeated as she leaned close to Elijah, their lips centimeters away from each other. “I love you.” She whispered as her lips brushed against Elijah’s. She smiled as Elijah closed the distance between them. This kiss was the beginning, of their binding to each other as Soul Mates. There would be nothing to hold her back from finally giving herself to Elijah. To finally seal their bond once and for all.

  1. I love the sweet brother/sister bonding between Klaus and Bella. It’s like they have known each other for years. And the way Bella interacted with and helped Rebecca and Kol with their spat was almost motherly, if not older sibling-like. They all seem to adore her. I love that!
