Something Breaks (Goner)

“Sometimes, a clean break is what you need. That’s what I’m trying to give you, Isabella.” Elijah said quietly.

Bella shook her head. “No.” She whispered her heart falling in her chest, and she could swear she could hear the cracks forming as he spoke.

“I won’t take this. NOT FROM YOU.” She shouted, her body shaking, he was supposed to be hers for eternity.

Elijah sighed out in annoyance, “I didn’t want to make things hard for you, but you have to understand that I no longer want you.”

Bella placed a hand on her chest, the pieces of her heart disappearing into dust at the heartache. “No, Eli, Please.”

“I wish you would stop calling me that.” He responded sounding irritated and bored with the conversation.

“But I love you.” Bella whispered her voice breaking with the words.

“I don’t love you, Isabella.” Elijah replied sternly. “I believe its best if you understand that.”

Bella closed her eyes and she fell to her knees not being able to breathe. “Eli.” She whispered pleadingly, she felt empty as if the last piece of her heart finally disappeared.

Bella gasped out and sat up taking in slow and deep breaths to ease her speeding heart.

“Isabella, my love.” Elijah said sitting up in the bed wrapping his arm around her waist. “What is the matter?”

Bella turned to him with watery eyes. “I…” She began but moved to wrap herself around him, clutching him tightly to make sure he was real. “I just had a bad dream. I thought I lost you. That you no longer wanted me.”

Elijah kissed the top of her head in a comforting gesture. “You’ll forever be the owner of my heart.” He pulled her back so she was looking at him. “There is nothing that will keep me away from you.”

Bella nodded, “Irrational fears.” She whispered leaning in to kiss him lightly. “They’ll go away with time. I just hope you’re patient enough.”

Elijah chuckled. “I have all the patience in the world for you, my love.”
